Biography

Tyrone C. Moncriffe is a board-certified expert in Criminal Law, accredited by the National Board of Trial Advocacy. He serves as a distinguished faculty member at the Criminal Defense Institute. In addition to this, he holds certification for first chair representation in Death Penalty cases in Harris County, Texas. He seamlessly integrates skills acquired from Sandra Zimmer’s Self Expression Center in Houston, Texas, into his lectures on acting and storytelling in trials.

In 1978, he graduated with honors, magna cum laude, from Texas Southern University. He continued his academic pursuit at Thurgood Marshall School of Law, earning his degree in 1982.

The year 2013 marked a pinnacle in Tyrone's career, marked by a cascade of new accolades complementing his existing awards. TCDLA President Lydia C. Jackson honored Tyrone C. Moncriffe with a presidential award for his dedicated work within the organization. His exceptional standing was evident in the copious nominations he received for the TOP 50 Black Lawyers of Houston. Notably, he was singled out as a favored speaker at the Harris County Criminal Lawyers Seminar in May. The recognition continued with invitations to address the Ohio Bar Associate Superstar Seminar and the DUI/DWI Seminar in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Tyrone's contributions were further celebrated in 2015 as he received the Trail Blazer Award from Harris County Black Criminal Lawyers. His outstanding commitment was acknowledged through The Presidential Award 2015 for his contributions to TCDLA. Furthermore, he earned a place in the "National Top One Percent Lawyers 2015" and secured charter membership as "Best Attorney" in 2015.

The recognition of Tyrone's excellence continued in 2017 when he was nominated for the "Lawyer of the Year" award by the Harris County Criminal Lawyer Association. His achievements over the years have been consistently acknowledged with various prestigious awards: the "Atticus Finch Award" by Fort Bend Criminal Defense in 2019, "Best Lawyer of the Year" by Best Lawyers in 2021, induction into the "Hall of Fame" by Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers in 2022, and an uninterrupted 18-year streak of being voted a "Super Lawyer" by "Super Lawyers" in 2023.
